CUA Men's Coach

Steve Howes

CUA '96

Steve Howes is entering his 13th year and stands in 2nd place in school history in total wins. The Maryland native was voted the 2013 Landmark Conference Coach of the Year, as well as a finalist for National Coach of the Year. He has guided the Cardinals to multiple Landmark Conference and CAC Championships in addition to multiple NCAA Tournament appearances. Howes has mentored at least one 1st Team All-Conference award winner in 11 of his 12 seasons as a head coach. Additionally, Howes mentored the Landmark Conference Player of the Year, Rookie of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, and Sportsman of the Year in 2015.

A former player and assistant under coach Mike Lonergan, Howes assisted with the recruitment of the 2001 National Championship team. He has conducted workouts for a myriad of college and professional players. Among the athletes he has helped develop is 12-year NBA veteran guard, Roger Mason.

Matt Donohue

Centenary College '94

In his 16 years as a head coach, Matt Donohue has guided multiple regionally and nationally ranked programs to postseason play. A three-time Coach of the Year award recipient, Donohue has mentored multiple All-Conference, All-Region, and All-American athletes, as well as Conference Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year recipients. Donohue has mentored at least one 1st Team All-Landmark Conference award winner in seven of his either seasons at the helm, while placing multiple players on the 1st Team Award list on multiple occasions. In 2014, Donohue guided CUA to the program’s first ever ECAC Tournament Championship. A year later, Donohue led the Lady Cardinals to the Landmark Conference tournament title for the third time in four seasons.

The 2013 Women’s Basketball Coaches Association – Russell Victory Club award recipient, Donohue is the all-time winningest coach in Catholic University Women’s basketball history with over 200 wins in his career.
